Thomas Durrett

August 6, 1959 — December 30, 2018

Thomas Neil Durrett Jr. Tom, age 59, passed away on December 30th 2018 in his home after a very short battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family and pets. Tom was born August 6th, 1959 in Yakima, WA to Stefani (Hank) Karnes and Thomas Neil Durrett Sr. Tom was the first of four children, his siblings being Dave (Brenda), Donna Madle and Joe. He spent his youth all across America, from California to New Hampshire. Tom has always had an affinity for music and was even playing the guitar from a very early age. His brother Dave and him even started a band during their time in California. Tom always knew success lied within a great work ethic, because of this he was able to purchase his first car, a forest green Mercury Cougar at the age of 16. This started his passion for all things on wheels. Tom met his wife, Carrie, at Washington State University in 1980 while studying for his accounting degree. They had a wonderful 36 years of marriage before his passing. Tom is survived by his four children Patrick, Andrew, Craig and Lauren. Each of who loved him dearly and looked up to him fondly. Tom started his own accounting firm here in Yakima, WA. He had a passion for numbers and helping his clients whom he loved greatly. He also had a huge heart for his community, he was a long-time member of the Yakima Downtown Rotary Club. Tom always found time to lend a hand while also supporting causes’ near to his heart. When he wasn’t working, he was spending time with his family, listening to music, researching cars and traveling. Most importantly, Tom was a great man. He would always offer help when in need and make sure you had every tool necessary to succeed. Tom also had a love for animals and made sure there was always a dog in his home, and a warm bed for them to sleep on. The family would like to say thank you to NorthStar for the wonderful care they gave him. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 12th at The Women’s Century Club starting at 11am. In lieu of flowers the family requests that friends honor Tom’s love animals and make a contribution to the Yakima Humane Society.
