Maria Sicairos

July 18, 1955 — December 26, 2020

On December 26, 2020, Maria Estella (DeLaFuente) Sicairos was called to her eternal home. Stella as everyone affectionally knew her, was born on July 18, 1955 in Bellingham, Wa to Ernesta (González) DeLaFuente and Homobono DeLaFuente. Stella grew up in Mabton, Wa, where she received her education and lived out her life. Earlier in life Stella worked in the canneries where she met many people who ended up becoming lifelong friends. In 1980 she met and married Rene Sicairos, and raised their combined 4 children. She later worked as a bus driver for Epic Headstart and always enjoyed reminiscing about the children she would bus back and forth. After a fall that had her out of work for a while she started driving for People For People where she would drive around the Yakima Valley taking people to appointments, she enjoyed driving and meeting new people that she then used her personal car to take people to important appointments as far as Spokane, Seattle and Portland. On those long trips she got to know her riders and a few would become close friends. She later would work at Mabton’s Blue Sky Market, where she enjoyed seeing and interacting with the public. Stella was such a social butterfly that you could bet every time she was out in public she would stop and talk to someone. Simple errands would become reunions with whom ever she would run into. Stella was very well known for her immaculate crocheting skills. She often made elaborate manteles and would gift them to newlyweds on their wedding day. Whenever she learned there was a new baby on the way she would get started on crocheting several baby blankets for the new parents-to-be. That’s how you knew you were someone special in her life. You either received a crocheted table cover or crocheted baby blankets. She always made sure they were gifted and never sold. They were her special gifts. However, her pride and joy were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They made her eyes sparkle and her heart swell with love! Stella has left a hole in our hearts than Can never be filled and she will be greatly missed. Stella is survived by her children, Marisol Hernandez (Rogelio) of Twin Falls, ID; Julian Sicairos (Janie) of Brownsville, Tx; Rosa Hernandez (Demetrius) of Kent, Wa and Samantha “Pupa” DeLaFuente (Hugo) of Lynnwood, Wa. Her siblings Arturo “Tootie” DeLaFuente (Leticia) of Mabton, Wa; Yolanda Gomez (Bernabé) of Sunnyside, Wa; Benito DeLaFuente (Audrey) of Mabton, Wa. Stella is also survived by her father Homabono DeLaFuente, of Taumalipas, Mx.
