“Well done, my good and faithful servant. Come, share your master’s joy!” (Matthew 25:23). Cecelia Moser, a long-time resident of Yakima, passed away Tuesday, November 20, 2018, at Chaplaincy Hospice Care in Kennewick with her family by her side, one day shy of her 88th birthday. One of 13 children, Cecelia was born to Valentine and Katherine Materi on November 21, 1930 in Hague, North Dakota. She spent her childhood on the family farm in Hague before relocating with her family to Yakima. It was here that Cecelia met and married her husband of 66 years, Tony Moser, and raised her 2 sons: John Moser of Kennewick and David Moser of Yakima.
She was a wonderful cook (never store-bought, always from scratch!) and an immaculate housekeeper. She enjoyed tending the flowers in her garden, camping with her husband and siblings at Lake Easton, attending German dances, playing cards and spoiling her numerous cats. She loved to shot (Macy’s, QVC, HSN, you name it!), and had every kitchen gadget known to man. She was a devout Catholic who enjoyed attending Saturday night Mass at Holy Family (where she was a parishioner for nearly 50 years), and later at St. Paul Cathedral, where she reconnected with Monsignor John Ecker, whom she knew from her time spent singing in the church choir.
Cecelia is preceded in death by her parents, Valentine and Katherine; husband Tony; 2 brothers and 5 sisters. She is survived by her sons, John and David; daughter-in-law Janet; 3 sisters: Mercedes, Angelina, and Katie; 2 brothers John and Tony; 5 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She will be remembered as a faithful wife, compassionate friend, and loving mother and grandmother.
Our family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Peace of Mind Adult Family Home in Richland, who showered “Grandma CeCe” with love and compassion these past 4 months. We would also like to thank the staff at Chaplaincy Hospice Care in Kennewick, who treated Cecelia with respect and dignity in her final days, as well as our friend Ashley Stewart who gave her beloved cat Sandy a wonderful new home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Monsignor John Ecker at 10 am on Friday, December 7, 2018 at St. Paul Cathedral. Inurnment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. There will be a reception after the graveside at St. Paul Cathedral.
