Joachim Ripplinger, 81, of Grandview passed away Sunday, September 25, 2011 in Yakima. He was born in Timberlake, South Dakota to Joseph and Magdeline Ripplinger. He served in the US Army, receiving two Purple Hearts in Korea. Joachim moved to Washington in 1953 and owned the Blue Moon in Sunnyside. He later owned an excavating company and retired from Twin City Foods as a mechanic. He attended the Grandview Nazarene Church with his wife of 25 years, Helen. He loved to read and work in the garden as well as play with his grandchildren. Joachim is survived by his wife, Helen of Grandview; sons, Earl Ripplinger of Grandview, Jeff (Tami)Ripplinger of Prosser, and Jim Ripplinger of Spokane; daughter, Sue (Rob)Rice of Sunnyside; sisters, Sister Helen Ripplinger of Aberdeen, SD, Julie Lynch of Lacey, WA, Mary Weber of Spokane, Roseanne Belcher of Vancouver, and Francis Birchard of Madras, OR; stepdaughters, Linda Drake of Grandview, Sandy Burns of Grandview, Kathy Butler of Benton City, and Vernadine Erickson of Othello; 9 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Sep. 27, 2011 from 1-4pm at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Sunnyside. Graveside services will military honors will be held at 10:00 on Wednesday, Sep. 28, 2011 at the Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Alzheimers Association.
