Janet Mary Johnson, 89, passed away at the West River Regional Hospital in Hettinger, ND on October 2, 2009.
Janet was born on November 18, 1919 in Washau, Montana to William R. Williams and Janett C. (Little) Williams. She married Melvin A. Johnson on March 24, 1946. She was the mother of three sons, John, Andrew, and Dale and one daughter, Verna. She and Melvin adopted two of their grandchildren later in life, Richard and Jenet. She had 12 more grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Janet and Melvin lived in many places, but most of their lives together were in Yakima, Washington where they operated an apartment building, and later ran a daycare from there home.
Her husband Melvin passed away on December 19, 2002. Janet continued to live in Yakima until June of 2006 when she moved to Lemmon, SD with her son Dale. The last year of her life she resided at Five Counties Nursing Home in Lemmon.
Survivors include her three sons, John Johnson and wife Linda, Andrew (Drew) Johnson and wife Sheila, Dale Johnson and wife Kathy; one daughter, Verna Johnson; grandchildren, Jenet Johnson, Richard Johnson and 11 other grandchildren, John, Susan, Kathy, Trisha, Drewann, Andrew, Anthony, Robert, Barbara, Casey, and Tracy and numerous great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin; her parents; a sister, Verna; two brothers who died at birth; her special mother-in-law Hildur; and one grandson Alan Andrew Johnson.
Viewing will be Thursday, Oct. 8 from 2 until 5 p.m. at Valley Hills Funeral Home, Yakima. Graveside Funeral Services will be held Friday, Oct. 9 at 10 a.m. at West Hills Memorial Park. Send condolences at www.valleyhillsfh.com.
