Bruce Arden Johnson was born March 21, 1933 in Astoria, Oregon to Arnie and Vivian Johnson. They resided in Ilwaco, Washington, where he attended his elementary education. Bruce was the only child.
In 1948, the Johnsons moved to Granger, Washington. He attended Granger High School and spent a year at Sunnyside High School to take more math and science classes then went back to Granger High School to finish his high school diploma. He graduated in 1951.
Education was an important aspect in his family and his immediate relatives so Bruce pursued education like the rest of his uncles, aunts and cousins. He was passionate in math, sciences and music. After high school he attended Yakima Valley College and earned his Associate Degree. He continued his college education and earned his degree in Engineering and Physics from Central Washington University in 1955. He took up graduate education from San Jose State University, California and finished it from Oregon State University.
Bruce taught at Benton City School District, Pendleton School District and Simi Valley (California) School District. He also worked for IBM in San Jose, California and Boeing in Seattle. He returned to Granger to take care of the farm after his father's death. Bruce became an active member of the Presbyterian Church in Granger and was also the church organist. He was a lifetime member of the Washington State Grange (Outlook), the Finnish Association and enjoyed attending organ recitals in the Yakima Valley.
He is survived by 8 Johnson cousins and some relatives on his mother's side. His parents preceded him in death last October 11, 2008 in Wapato where he resided since April 2009.
You are invited to attend the service of Death and Resurrection to be held at Sunnyside Presbyterian Church at 737 South 16th Street on November 13, 2009 at 10:30 am. Reception follows.
