George William Simpson
George William Simpson, of Mabton, died on Sunday, November 1, 2009 at the age of 98. He was born on the family home site east of Mabton and passed away at the family home. George was a proud second generation Scot. His father, Alexander Simpson emigrated from Scotland and married Katie Johnson. They migrated to the Mabton area in 1910.

George graduated from Mabton High School in 1929 and served for a short time in the U.S. Army. He was drafted in WWII, but was discharged and sent home before deployment in order to farm and aid the war effort. He married Mary Beth Kiser in 1941 and they raised three children. George was a farmer's farmer, and he and Mary Beth thoroughly enjoyed the farming life. They were married for 63 years before Mary Beth's passing in 2005. George served on the boards of the Wash. Asparagus Growers Assoc. and Drainage Improvement District #2. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and also was on the Mabton School Board. In their later years, George and Mary Beth loved to travel and go dancing.

George was preceded in death by his wife Mary Beth; brothers, Roy, Alex and Norman and sisters Elsie Babcock and Edna Van Nostern. He is survived by his three children; daughter Jean (David) Hill of Kent, WA and sons Doug (Annette) and John, both of Mabton. He is also survived by four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

At the family's request, there will be no formal services, but a memorial for both Mom & Dad will be held at a later date. Remembrances may be made to your favorite charity.
Send Condolences.
