Avis Shafer
UNION GAP - Avis went to Heaven to be with her loving husband Hank and son Larry on Tuesday, November 3, 2009. Avis Lyndell Vice was born on May 31, 1914 in Barada, Nebraska to Tillman Andrew and Bessie Pearl (Ramer) Vice. She was the third of ten children. Avis attended schools throughout southeast Nebraska and graduated from Barada High School in 1932. Her goal was to teach English in public schools, but that was put aside when she married Henry G. Shafer on June 24, 1933 in Hiawatha, KS. Together, they raised five children: Dennis Lee and Larry Eugene born in Nebraska and Kenneth Duane, Stanley and Linda Lorraine in Washington. She was a devoted wife and mother. Dennis was her lemon chiffon pie, Larry was her cinnamon roll junkie, Kenneth loved it all, Stanley was her chocolate chip cookies and Linda was her favorite little girl. She loved all her family and God and looked forward to eternal life. She is survived by her children Dennis (Darlene), Union Gap, WA, Kenneth (Eileen) and Stanley (Verna), Yakima, WA and Linda (Lynn) Dosch, Selah, WA; also twelve grandchildren, many great & great great grandchildren and one sister Merna (Roy) Kirkendall of Falls City, NE. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Hank, son Larry; brothers Harold, Claron, T.A., Wayne, Worth (Dude), & Venton; sisters Marie and Jeannine; and one infant grandson Dennis Lee Jr. Her life lives on in her many grandchildren and all of their families. We all love her dearly! Many thanks to everyone at Parkside that loved and supported her and especially her dear granddaughter Rhonda Shafer.

Graveside services will be held at Terrace Heights Memorial Park, Yakima, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 7, 2009.
Send Condolences.
She was a real special lady, always a class act, and always had a kind word for everyone. She will be missed.
