On November 17, 2009 Martha Schafer (Fries) went home into the loving arms of her Lord, Jesus Christ. She was surrounded by her loving family.
Martha was born on January 26, 1918, in McCook, Nebraska to Jacob and Anna Fries. She married Victor Schafer on February 19, 1939 in Hardin, Montana.
Martha is survived by two children, Barbara (Ron) McClinton of Olympia, WA and Dick (Janet) Schafer of Wapato, WA; five grandchildren, Lori (Joe) Rollinger, Linda (Chris) Olsen, Scott (Melissa) Schafer, Stacy Huff and Carrie (Michael) Schafer; eight great grandchildren, Markus, Kayla, and Jason Rollinger, Zechariah, Skylar, and Ariah Romero, Jordan Olsen and Keayana Schafer. Martha is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Martha and Victor farmed in the Wapato area for many years. She loved to cook, bake and tend her garden, where she canned her home grown vegetables. After Victor passed away, Martha got her drivers license and joined the Toppenish Senior Center. She was soon appointed President of the Center where she made many new friends and enjoyed all their activities.
Martha was a member of the Harrah Assembly of God Church. She enjoyed being with her church family.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Anna Fries, her husband Victor Schafer, a son James Leroy Schafer, grandson Randy Lee McClinton and great grandson Aaron Michael Romero.
Graveside funeral services will be held on Monday, November 23, 2009 at 11:00 at the Reservation Cemetery in Wapato. In lieu of flosers we ask that donations made in memory of Martha Schafer be made to the Harrah Assembly of God Church, PO Box 29, Harrah, WA 98933.
