Phillip Noble Flower
Phillip Noble (Phill) Flower, 68, of Sunnyside passed away at the Sun Terrace Retirement & Assisted Living Community on Wednesday, November 16, 2011. He was born in Prosser on April 19, 1943, to Alfred and Helen (Stackhouse) Flower, and spent most of his life in Sunnyside and the Yakima Valley, living in the family home on Stackhouse Avenue overlooking Flower Street until his beloved mother’s death in 1987. He was also preceded in death by his father, sister Patricia (Thomas) Martin, and cousin Elizabeth (Keith) Miller.

Phill’s interests in life were focused on photography and music. He spent many of his formative years in his basement darkroom and local movie theaters as well as listening to the vast range of recordings in his massive collection of LPs, to which he later added many CDs and DVDs. His studies in Communications at CWU in Ellensburg and Bates Technical Institute in Tacoma were a continuation of his love of music and the magical machinery that gave life to it. A perennial favorite activity was to attend the Lower Valley Community Concert Series. He took great pride in his unbroken membership and attendance record since early childhood, relating memories of reading or coloring under the bleachers as a four or five year-old while listening to the music. He also valued his family history in the Yakima Valley and was a regular attendee at the annual Pioneer Days picnic in Sunnyside as well as a long-term member of the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church.

Phill is survived by his nieces Julia (Tracy Dillon) Martin of Tacoma and Elin Martin of Seattle; his brother-in-law Rev. Thomas Martin of Tacoma; his cherished grand-niece Eliza Morris of Seattle; and cousins Bill (Anne) Flower of Sunnyside, Charles (Victoria) Flower of Yakima, Mary Lee Borreson of Enumclaw, Dan (Sharon) Flower of Moraga (CA), Elizabeth Stackhouse (Bruno) Pierini of Seattle, and Marjorie Stackhouse (Bill) McNae of Oak Harbor.

A memorial service will be held in the spring at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, Sunnyside. Anyone wishing to make a donation in Phill’s memory is asked to contribute to research on Autistic Spectrum Disorders (like Aspergers) through organizations such as the University of Washington Autism Center at http://www.supportuwmedicine.org (206-221-7526) or the National Autism Association at http://www.nationalautismassociation.org (866-622-6733). I was an instructor/manager at the local beauty school in Sunnyside, WA. Phillip came to the school to get his haircut every so often, he was a kind, gentle soul, and always courteous to the students, and staff. We all enjoyed and are thankful for his patronage to the school.
I met Phill back in 1992 at Sunridge Foods Inc. I had the privilege of getting to know him and becoming a close personal friend of Phill's over the years we got to work together. Even though we pursued other employment opportunities and saw less of each other, whenever we did run into each other we always greeted each other and would find out more about each others current status and the latest news. My wife and kids got to enjoy Phill's friendship as well, and my kids always new him as "Phill Flower, The Man of The Hour" he enjoyed hearing this from them when we would see him. We sure are going to miss him dearly. On a separate note, I want to thank his cousin Bill Flower whom Phill spoke so highly of for looking out for Phill's best interest and always being there for him. We will miss you "Phillip Flower, Man of The Hour"

I had the opportunity to work with Phillip for about seven years, he was always full of such great knowledge. He had some amazing stories to tell to. Not to mention a hard worker. He has touched many people in his life an will continue to. Thought and prayers go out to his family.
