Lucille Leeanna Byers, 84, passed away on Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at Avalon Care Center in Othello, Washington.
Lucille Leeanna Reidt was born in Deer Park, Washington, on her mother’s 25th birthday, February 23, 1927, to Edgar Gilstrom Reidt and Elva Leeanna (Meeks) Reidt. She spent her childhood in the town of Hanford and in the Yakima Valley, attending school in Moxee, Washington.
On November 23, 1945, at the age of 18, Lucille married Howard Leonard Byers in Yakima, Washington. They made their first home in Yakima where Howard worked for the Bureau of Reclamation as a surveyor and Lucille was a homemaker. They moved to Quincy, Washington, in 1952, where they resided with their growing family until May of 1960 when the family moved to Othello, Washington.
When her children got older, Lucille went to work for Chef-Reddy Foods in Othello, where she worked for several years. She later worked for the Othello Convalescent Center.
Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Byers, in 1988, and an infant son, Gail Lewis Byers, in 1957. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Edgar in 1968 and Elva Reidt in 1970; an infant brother, Ernest Reidt, in 1923; her brother Roy Reidt in 1966; her sister Irene Vinge in 1998; sister Pauline Stedman in 2009; and brother Robert Reidt in 2010. Lucille is survived by her children, Joyce Hill of Moxee, WA; Gerald Byers and wife Carri, of Moxee, WA; Gary Byers of Yakima, WA; Gale Byers of Warden, WA; and Jean Tweedie and husband Archie of Port Townsend, WA. Also surviving are her seven grandchildren, Naomi (Dave) Mahn of McMinnville, OR; Kevin (Rebecca) Byers of Seattle, WA; Sheryl Byers of Pasco, WA; Jennifer Byers of Florida; and Chereé Hill, Sean Byers and Keli Byers, all of Moxee, WA. Lucille is also survived by her sisters Earline Whitson of Elma, WA; and Leona Holladay of Falls City, Oregon; sister-in-law Virgie Reidt of Yakima, WA; as well as several great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held in Yakima, WA (Monday, November 21, at 10:00, at Valley Hills Funeral Home, 2600 Business Lane in Terrace Heights). A gathering and reception will be held immediately following the service at the funeral home. Valley Hills Funeral Home has been entrusted with final arrangements.
