Kenneth W. Pope
Kenneth Winfield Pope, 83, passed away on December 28, 2011 in Selah. He was born on January 6, 1928 to Kenneth and Ruth Pope in Bellingham, WA.

Kenneth served in three branches of the U.S. military including the Army, Air Force, and Navy serving in Japan and other locations. He worked for many years as a teacher in the Toppenish School District. After retiring, he received his Pastor’s certification and worked as a pastor for First Christian Church in Toppenish.

Kenneth was married to Charlotte Yost for over 18 years. He enjoyed fishing and camping with his grandchildren and taking trips to South Dakota to visit family. He was also an active member of the Masonic Lodge, the White Shrine, and the Order of the Amaranth.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Ruth Pope.

Kenneth is survived by his wife, Charlotte Pope, of Selah; stepson, Bradley McCartney of Spokane; stepdaughter, Michelle (Danny) McCartney Vance of Selah; numerous adopted siblings; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be offered on Monday, January 2, 2012 from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Yakima. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. also at the funeral home. Graveside committal will take place following the service at Terrace Heights Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the William Wharton VFW Post #379 in Yakima. Ken was our next door neighbor for many years as I was a kid. He and his first wife got me involved in square dancing at a very early age. He was a good friend and neighbor.
