Jean McCulloch, age 95, died on Monday, December 5, 2011. She was born on March 22, 1916 in Yakima to Edward and Winifred Rankin. She was a graduate of Yakima High School, and after attending Whitman College for two years, she graduated from the University of Washington as a Music major. She played violin in the symphony orchestra and often played violin/piano concerts with her sister, Barbara.
Jean was married in 1939 to Dr. George McCulloch. They enjoyed an active life of sports, traveling and socializing with friends and family. Jean kept an immaculate, yet loving home while graciously raising four children. She made time to be involved in many clubs and community organizations including the Florence Wight Guild, PEO Chapter BD, Yakima Dental Society Wives, Tri Delta Sorority, and the Congregational Church. The two enjoyed 62 years of marriage until George passed away in 2002.
Throughout her life, Jean enjoyed children. She babysat as a young girl, lovingly raised her children, and enjoyed an active relationship with her grandchildren.
Jean is survived by her sister, Barbara Kirschner of Vashon; her four children: Fred McCulloch (Mary) of Friday Harbor, Margaret McCulloch of Spokane, Robert McCulloch of Yakima, and Barbara Riley (Jim) of Yakima; her five grandchildren: Mark McCulloch, Heather Young, Jennie McCulloch, Justin Riley, and Erin VanTighem; and three great-grandchildren.
