Alberta DeBord of Tieton, WA went into the loving arms of our Lord on December 12, 2011.
She spent the last years of her life in Moses Lake to be near her daughter, Nola Gorrell. Alberta was raised and educated in the Prosser area where she met Charles Cawley. She married him on May 19, 1934 and was blessed with three sons, Bobby, Alven, and Dale, and one daughter, Ruth. After Charles’ death she was a single mother until she met J. Francis DeBord. They married on July 17, 1951 and were blessed with two more children, a son, Jay, and a daughter, Nola.
Those who knew Alberta will always remember her wonderful bread and cinnamon rolls and her love of plants and flowers. Mom’s home was always full of plants. She loved to walk and would go for walks every day until her eyesight started getting bad.
Alberta, or “Grandma Grape” as she was called by her grandkids, found great joy in reading to her grandkids and telling them all the amazing stories in the Bible and how much Jesus loves them. Alberta was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and friend. She loved spending time with her friends and family.
She is survived by her son, Jay (Linda) DeBord of Cowiche; two daughters, Nola (Ed) Gorrell of Moses Lake, and Ruth Hughes of Blight, GA; brother, Frank Larson of Milwaukie, OR; sister, Emma Kleinknecht of Kennewick; 12 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be offered from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 27 at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Yakima. Funeral services will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 28 also at the funeral home. Graveside committal will follow the service at Terrace Heights Memorial Park.
