Edna Lee Haley Teel
Edna Lee Haley Teel, age 91, passed away Saturday August 20, 2011 at Yakima Regional Hospital. Edna was born November 20, 1919 in Wesley, Arkansas to Virgil Boyd and Mary Emmaline (Neal) Boyd. She was raised and educated in northwest Arkansas along with four brothers and four sisters. In 1940 she married Jay Haley Sr., in Fayetteville, AR and began a family with the birth of their first son, Jay Jr. Later came another son Gene, and a few years later there was Gary. In the late '40s the family headed West, living for a while in California and Oregon, before settling in Granger, WA in 1955, and that’s where they put down roots and daughter Brenda was born.
Living in Granger, Edna worked for several years at Yakima Bait Company and attended church at Granger Assembly of God and made many friends. Edna's first priority was her family. She worked very hard and made sure there were healthy meals on the table. She always enjoyed sewing and crocheting, and in later years she became a “world class embroiderer”. She also liked her 'Word Search Puzzles' and TV game shows. Her greatest joy in life was no doubt, her grandkids, great-grandkids, and great-great-grandkids. She showed them so much love, always strived to remember their birthdays, and cherished every moment she spent with them.
Edna is survived by her sons Jay Haley Jr. of Granger, WA., Gary Haley of Union Gap, WA., and daughter Brenda Lee Cochran of Yakima, WA., thirteen grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren. And one sister, Marie Wiseman of Fayetteville, Arkansas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jay Sr., her son Dwight Eugene (Gene) Haley in 1963, four brothers, and three sisters.
The family would like to thank the staff at Landmark Care Center for the loving care they provided our mother for the past several months, and also the doctors and nurses who cared for her in her final days at Yakima Regional Hospital.
There will be a time of visitation from 10 A.M. to 12 P.M. Friday, August 26, at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Zillah with services beginning at 12 P.M. Burial will follow at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens in Sunnyside. Valley Hills Funeral Home in Zillah is in care of the arrangements. Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.valleyhillsfh.com.
