James Alden Himes
James Alden Himes, 79, of Yakima, died Wednesday August 19, 2009 at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital.

Jim was born June 6, 1930 in Spokane, the son of James B. and Hattie J. (Buckles) Himes. He grew up in Spokane and attended North Central High School. In 1948 Jim joined the United States Marine Corps Reserves and began his career with the Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company where he was an apprentice cable splicer.

In 1950 he became active with the USMC and went to Korea. In 1952 Jim was released from active duty and moved to Yakima where he continued his career with Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company, a career which would last 36 years. Jim worked as a lineman, cable splicer, installer, and he also worked in the engineering, marketing and management areas.

Upon Jim’s retirement he was able to travel throughout the United States. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and especially being with his children and grandchildren.

Jim is survived by his wife Freda Himes of Yakima; two children, Jeri Lynn Hass of George, Iowa and James Scott Himes and wife Molly of Moxee; four grandchildren, John James Hass and wife Kristin of Spencer, Iowa, Rebecca Lynne Hass of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and James Rodger Himes and Zachary Thomas Himes, both of Moxee; one great grandson, Ethan Lyndon Hass of Spencer, Iowa, and a brother, Robert Kenneth Himes of Spokane.

Jim is also survived by four step-daughters, Becky (Karl) Huth of Yakima, Laura (Grant) Borden of Seattle, Susie (Rev. David) Edler of Yakima and Lottie (Martin) Biehl of Yakima; nine step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter Patricia and a son-in-law, Lyndon Hass.

Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at the Yakima Foursquare Church, 700 North 40th Avenue, Yakima. Memorials in memory of Jim may be made to the favorite charity of the donor in the care of Valley Hills Funeral Home. Send condolences at www.valleyhillsfh.com.
