Ruth Conry passed away on August 13, 2011 at Kadlec Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She had struggled with emphysema and COPD for many years.
Ruth was born on October 22, 1932 in Maquoketa, Iowa to Charity (Poole) and Frank Russell. She attended grade school in Iowa and worked on the family chicken farm. The family moved to the Yakima Valley in the late 40's and Ruth graduated from Sunnyside High School in 1951. Ruth and Francis Homan were married in 1951 and after Francis had worked at Hanford and on The Dalles Dam, they settled in Grandview in 1956 where they raised their family. Ruth and Francis owned and operated an upholstery business in Grandview in the late 50's and early 60's. After selling the upholstery business Francis died in a fall during the construction of John Day Dam in March 1965 and Ruth was left to raise 5 children ranging in age 1 year to 12 years old.
Ruth married Blaine Conry in December of 1967 and they lived in Grandview together until Blaine's death in 1991. Ruth was an administrative assistant at the Junior High School in Grandview until her retirement. She loved to cook and made feasts for the family during the holidays and other special events. She also enjoyed camping with her children and seldom missed their baseball, basketball or football games.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents Charity and Frank Russell, husbands Francis Homan and Blaine Conry, sisters Laura Bodour and Esther Daugherty and step-daughter Deloris Zimmerman. She is survived by her sons David (Maria) of Sunnyside, Jim (Sandy) of Richland, Dennis (Melissa) of West Richland, Mike of Grandview, and Marty (Suzanne) of Prosser, daughter Pat (Eugene) of Shell Knob, Missouri, step-sons Don Conry (Rebecca) of Waterville, Maine and Delbert Conry of Sunnyside, many grandchildren, nieces and nephews and Nancy Homan of Richland. She is also survived by sisters Clara Hill of Grandview and June Rankin of Spokane, brothers Les (Margie) Russell of Council, Id. and Lyle (Eva) Russell of Grandview and brother-in-law Frank Daugherty of Richland.
